Em-mycetin Capsules contain Chloramphenicol I.P. 250 mg, a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, especially when other antibiotics are ineffective or contraindicated. Therapeutic Indications Typhoid and paratyphoid fever Serious infections caused by Salmonella, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria species Respiratory tract infections (as advised by physician) Certain anaerobic infections Mechanism of Action Chloramphenicol acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, resulting in bacteriostatic action against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Dosage & Administration Dosage should be strictly as prescribed by the physician. To be taken orally with water, preferably after food. Precautions & Warnings Use only under medical supervision due to risk of serious adverse effects. Not recommended in patients with bone marrow suppression, liver impairment, or history of hypersensitivity. Prolonged use may cause blood dyscrasias; regular monitoring is advised.
