Stick welding electrodes, also known as welding rods, are consumable metal wires encased in a chemical flux coating. As the electrode melts to form the filler metal, the flux burns to create a protective gas shield and leaves behind a slag layer, keeping the molten weld safe from atmospheric contamination.
