In electrical engineering and home renovations, an old modular box refers to either an existing, outdated switch box embedded in a wall or a specialized electrical enclosure known as an "old work" box. These boxes house wires, outlets, and switches. Standard new-construction boxes nail directly to exposed wall studs before drywall is installed, but old work/retrofit modular boxes mount directly into a pre-existing finished wall during repairs or upgrades.
